This varies depending on your specific case. We do require follow ups every 6 months for prescription or ongoing supplement management. Whether you're looking for general advice or ongoing support we can help meet your needs!
Again, this can vary depending on the specifics of your case. A typical new patient visit will be from 60-90 minutes with the doctor. Follow ups vary from 30-60 minutes in general.
Oregon Residents: Past records: Any labs or imaging results you have from the past 12 months in relation to your health goals are helpful to have ready. They can also be uploaded to our secure health system. Chart notes will be requested if needed by the provider. Make sure you have filled out the intake forms at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled visit!
Out-of-State Consults: Any labs, imaging, notes from other providers up to 20 pages will need to be uploaded to our platform at least 48 hours prior to your consult in order to give Dr. Sewell plenty of time to review them. Setting an intentional space for your visit: We understand and share the common sentiment that people are busy! Please make sure you have access to an internet connection that will allow for video conferencing.
Make a list if you need to: I recommend choosing 1-3 current complaints you'd like to address. We will accomplish as much as we can in our time together, though sometimes more complex matters can take more than one visit to fully address.
We do have a messaging platform for the practice. The doctor or receptionist may respond your message depending on it's nature. While messages are extremely convenient, please make sure your messages are concise and concerning the current recommendation plan between you and Dr. Sewell. All messages containing questions from new complaints will require a visit to be addressed. We answer messages as fast as we can, but a general turnaround is 48-72 business hours.
Pharmaceutical medications are sometimes necessary either temporarily or long term depending on the specifics of your case. They have their place in medicine and can be incredibly beneficial. I am not anti-medication! That being said, I have seen the power that botanicals, vitamins, nutrition, and lifestyle can have on our bodies! There are many cases where medications can be reduced or removed under the supervision of your healthcare team.
For Oregon Residents: ND's have a full scope of prescription rights. There are some medications that are readily managed in my practice. Examples are hypothyroid medications (including Armour, Levothyroxine, NP Thyroid), and bioidentical hormones (BHRT) in various formats. I am able to adjust doses and manage some others as well.
For Out-of-State Consults: I am unable to prescribe or manage prescription medications. Many states have not yet defined rights and laws for Naturopathic providers regarding prescription management. Luckily, we have so many other amazing tools at our disposal. For thyroid and hormone imbalances in particular, there are many excellent options in the form of botanicals, and professional level nutraceuticals that we can discuss. As a licensed naturopathic physician in a state that allows us prescription rights, I am able to discuss your medications with you from an integrative medical perspective in a way that differentiates me from other practitioners such as health coaches, unlicensed naturopaths, nutritionists, counselors and dietitians.
Oregon residents: If we are in-network with your insurance, this will depend on your coverage, deductible, copay, and coinsurance. If you're not sure about your coverage please give us a call! If we are not in network with your insurance, we provide discounts from our insurance rates.
Out of State Consults: The initial consult investment is $375, which includes my pre-session review of up to 20 pages of your medical record + electronic client packet, our 60-90 minute video conference session, and an outline of any recommendations discussed. Follow up sessions range from 30-60 minutes and are billed in 15 minute increments at $50 per 15 minutes.
A quick note about rates and transparency: For every 60 minutes of face to face time with patients and clients, there is another 2 hours of tasks on average of prepping, paperwork, research, calls, messages, lab work, supplement preparation etc. It takes a universe to make it all available, accessible, and sustainable to both our team and our clients. Like all providers, we have many moving pieces to maintain to continue offering this vital service to the public. Some examples are insurance, reception, billing, a private and secure client interface, marketing, continuing education, professional license dues, doctorate student loans, and taxes. Our rates reflect the market and overall costs of maintenance. We also limit our client load to make sure that each client gets the care and attention they deserve. Above all, our utmost priority is your health!
